NO + Code to 312: The MTN Auto-Renewal Cancel Command Explained
How to Stop MTN Data Auto-Renewal in 3 Simple Steps
The cancel command, the mistakes to avoid and how to restart it later.
You buy a 2GB plan on Monday. Three weeks later, a chunk of airtime is gone and your data is back, though you never asked for it. Nothing is wrong with your line. The plan you bought was set to Auto-renew, and it did exactly what it was told.
3 steps to stop it
If you have more than one plan
Renewals follow categories (daily, weekly, monthly and so on). If you hold several plans in one category, only the last one you bought in that category renews. Cancel that one, or you will keep seeing the same charge.
Auto-renew or One-off: pick the right one next time
| Choose | When it makes sense |
|---|---|
| Auto-renew | You use the same plan every cycle and keep enough airtime |
| One-off | You are testing a plan or only need data once |
When you buy by USSD, MTN makes you choose before it completes the purchase. On SMS, if you ignore the pop-up, the plan is One-off by default.
Want it back later?
Text R + the code to 312. For the daily plan above, that is R104. This renews the plan and turns Auto-renew on again.
Related charges to watch
- Pay-as-you-go browsing can use airtime after your bundle ends if you opted in. Turn it off with *312*201#.
- A renewal needs enough airtime. With low airtime the plan simply will not renew.
Does stopping auto-renewal cancel my current data?
No. You keep what you have until it expires.
Can I cancel in the myMTN app?
MTN lists the app as a way to manage your data. Use SMS if you cannot find the option.
I do not remember the code. What now?
Check the plan menu or the plans page, or ask MTN customer care.
