How to Cancel MTN Data Subscription: 3 Kinds You Might Be Paying For
Data plan renewal, pay-as-you-go browsing and unwanted services, each with its own fix.
Someone says “cancel my MTN data subscription” and they can mean three different things. The fix for one does nothing for the others, which is why people cancel and still lose airtime. Find your case below.

1. A data plan that renews itself
MTN confirms you can cancel auto-renewal at any time by sending NO + the bundle code to 312. Example: NO104 for the 110MB daily plan. The plan then runs to its expiry and stops. Our full guide on stopping auto-renewal goes through the steps.
2. Pay-as-you-go browsing
After a bundle is used up, MTN only lets you browse from airtime if you opted in to PAYG. It is charged at ₦3.07/MB. To switch it off, dial *312*201# or send SUSPEND to 312. Switching it on again is *312*200#. If your airtime drains quickly while no plan is active, this is the first thing to check.
3. A subscription you never chose
Some charges come from value-added services, not from data plans. Nigeria’s single codes for all networks put the service-stop menu at *305#. Also reply STOP to the short code that sent the message, and send STOP to 2442 to block unsolicited promotional messages (Do-Not-Disturb). For anything stubborn, dial 300 for MTN’s help desk.
Quick checks before you give up
- Look at the last SMS from MTN. It names the plan or service that was charged.
- If several plans are active in one category, only the last one you bought in that category renews.
- Choose One-off when buying so nothing renews by itself.
