How to Migrate to MTN TruTalk: Status, Codes and Cheaper Plans Today
Say you make about two hours of calls a month. On a plan charging ₦19.80 a minute, that is ₦2,376. On a cheaper flat plan it can be hundreds of naira less. That gap is why people keep asking for TruTalk.
Where does TruTalk stand?
TruTalk was a flat-rate calling plan. Old guides quote rates between 11 and 14 kobo per second, and they disagree on its fees. MTN’s current voice menu lists BetaGist, mPulse, MTN X and XtraValue, plus XtraSpecial Postpaid, and TruTalk is not there. Treat any TruTalk code you find online with care.

What your calls would cost
| Minutes a month | BetaGist | MTN X (up to 30 days of fees) | XtraSpecial Postpaid |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 | ₦1,188 | Up to ₦1,200 | ₦720 |
| 120 | ₦2,376 | Up to ₦2,100 | ₦1,440 |
| 300 | ₦5,940 | Up to ₦4,800 | ₦3,600 |
The figures multiply each plan’s listed per-minute rate by your minutes. MTN X adds ₦10 per day, and I have shown the highest case of 30 days. BetaGist’s give-back minutes would lower its total.
Picking the right one
- Few calls, mostly data: stay on BetaGist and avoid extra fees.
- Daily callers on prepaid: MTN X wins once you pass roughly 60 minutes a month.
- Heavy callers who can go postpaid: XtraSpecial Postpaid has the lowest rate.
- Voice and data together: compare an XtraValue bundle’s price against buying minutes and data separately.
Common questions
Is TruTalk cheaper than MTN X?
Old sources quote a lower rate for TruTalk, but it is not on MTN’s current menu, so you cannot count on it.

MTN lists a ₦10 daily access fee, not a monthly one.
Can I go back to BetaGist later?
Yes. Every prepaid customer can migrate to BetaGist.
Where do I check the newest rates?
In the myMTN app, in Zigi or on MTN’s plan pages.
