MTN Tariff Plans and Migration Codes: Which of the 5 Current Plans Fits You?

Which MTN plan are you on, and does it match how you call? Most people never check. Many lines sit on the default plan for years while a cheaper one is a text message away. Here is the current picture, based on MTN’s own pages.

The plans on MTN’s voice menu

Plan Call rate Extra fee Who it suits
BetaGist 33k/sec (₦19.80/min) None listed Default plan for new SIMs
MTN X 25k/sec (₦15/min) ₦10 daily access fee Regular callers and streamers
XtraValue ₦10.80/min inside a bundle Buy a bundle to join Voice and data in one bundle
XtraSpecial Postpaid 20k/sec (₦12/min) No access fee Postpaid customers
mPulse See MTN’s mPulse page Not checked Listed by MTN as a voice plan

How to check your plan

Open the myMTN app and look for your tariff name, or ask Zigi, MTN’s virtual assistant. Both show the plan on your line, so you know what you are changing from.

How to change your plan: 3 official channels

1Zigi chatbot. Choose Tariff plan, then Personal, then the plan you want.
2myMTN app. Select your tariff name, open the tariff plans page and pick a new plan.
3SMS. Send the plan keyword to 312. MTN X uses MTNX, and BetaGist is reported to use BG.

Direct codes MTN lists today

Plan Code or method
MTN X Dial *406*1# or send MTNX to 312
XtraValue Buy any XtraValue bundle, for example by dialling *312*5#
XtraSpecial Postpaid Dial *409# and enter your BVN
Skip the old lists. Many websites still show codes such as *123*2*6# for plans that are no longer on MTN’s voice menu. If a code returns something unexpected, stop and use the app or Zigi.

What switching costs

MTN’s pages for BetaGist and MTN X say a migration is free if it is your first in 30 days. A second switch inside that window may be charged, so pick carefully. When you leave XtraValue, an active bundle’s balance cannot be used on the new plan.

A 100-minute test

Plan Cost of 100 minutes of calls
BetaGist ₦1,980
MTN X ₦1,500 plus up to ₦300 in daily fees
XtraSpecial Postpaid ₦1,200
XtraValue XtraTalk 1500 ₦1,500 buys 117 minutes and 580MB

These are simple per-minute sums from MTN’s listed rates. They ignore BetaGist’s give-back minutes and any bonus you may get, so treat them as a guide.
