How to Report a MoMo Problem to MTN Uganda Support

Do this first
If money left your wallet and the other side did not get it, do not retry at once. Check your history, wait a few minutes and then contact customer care with the details.

A failed or unclear mobile money transaction causes real panic. Rent, school fees or an urgent payment can depend on it. Most issues are solved by a clear check and a clear report. This guide explains the common transaction problems on MTN Mobile Money in Uganda, what to check first and how to report each one.

First, stay calm and check

1 Look for a confirmation SMS from the wallet.
2 Check your balance and recent history in the menu (*165#) or the app.
3 Check with the receiver whether they got the money.
4 Wait ten to fifteen minutes before repeating the transaction.
Do not repeat too soon
Sending again before you know the first one failed can lead to double payment.

Wrong number transfers

These are the hardest to fix. Report straight away. The sooner support hears, the better the chance of help. Do not threaten the other person and do not send more money to get the first back. Keep all messages.

Pending and failed transactions

Pending can mean the system is waiting for a response. Many resolve within a short time. If your money was deducted and the status does not change, report it.

Locked wallet or wrong PIN

  • Stop trying random PINs.
  • Use the PIN reset option in the menu if it is offered.
  • Visit an official outlet with your ID if you cannot reset.
  • Change the PIN after you regain access.

Fraud and suspicious activity

  • Do not approve requests you did not start.
  • Do not give your PIN or code to a caller.
  • Report unknown transactions straight away.
  • Change your PIN and secure your SIM.

How to avoid the problem next time

  1. Read each screen before you confirm.
  2. Save regular numbers in your contacts.
  3. Send a small test amount to a new recipient.
  4. Check your balance before big payments.
  5. Keep your app updated.
  6. Avoid transactions when the signal is weak.

Keep a transaction diary

For important payments, write down the date, the amount, the number, the reference and the status. A diary gives support what it needs and helps you avoid paying twice because you forgot you already did.

Column Example
Date and time Morning of a market day
Recipient Name and number
Amount and fee As shown in the SMS
Reference From the confirmation message
Status Success, pending or failed

If a business says it did not receive your payment

  1. Show the confirmation message with the reference.
  2. Check that the number or merchant code matches theirs.
  3. Ask them to check their history, not just their phone messages.
  4. Wait a few minutes and ask again.
  5. If it still fails, report together with customer care.

If you received a wrong payment

If money arrives that you did not expect, do not spend it. Contact customer care and the sender through official channels. Spending money that is not yours can cause serious problems, and it is better to let support help return it.

Tips for busy periods

  • Avoid large transfers when the network is busy.
  • Avoid transactions in places with weak signal.
  • Do not start a second transaction before the first finishes.
  • Keep a little airtime so confirmation messages can reach you.
Merchant did not receive payment
Ask the merchant to check the right number and send them the confirmation.
Dispute with an agent
Report with the agent’s number and the time.
A reversal was promised
Ask for a reference number and follow up with it.

Locked out after a phone change

If you changed phones and cannot log in, check that the SIM is active, that you typed the right PIN and that the app is the official one. If it still fails, visit an outlet with your ID. Do not let strangers help you with the PIN screen.

Most transaction problems have a way forward when you act quickly and report clearly. Check, wait briefly, gather the details and contact support. Keep your PIN private throughout.
