Glo Café App Not Working: Fixes
You open the Glo Café app to buy data or check your balance, and it hangs on the loading screen. Or it shuts itself down. Or it says your login failed when you know the number is right. It is a small problem that feels big, because the app is where many people manage their line.
The good news is that most Glo Café problems have simple causes. Weak data, an old app version, a full phone, a bad cache or a wrong date setting cause the bulk of them. This guide walks through the fixes in a sensible order, starting with the quickest.
Work down the list one step at a time. After each fix, open the app again before moving to the next. That way you will know exactly which step solved it, and you will not waste time on things you did not need to do.
Start here: what kind of problem do you have?
Different symptoms point to different causes. Match yours below before you try anything.
| What you see | Likely cause | Go to |
|---|---|---|
| App will not open or closes at once | Old version, full storage or corrupted cache | Update, clear cache, free space |
| Stuck on the loading screen | Weak data or network | Check your connection |
| Login or OTP fails | Wrong number format, OTP delay, network | Login fixes |
| Balance shows blank or zero | Slow sync or server delay | Refresh and USSD backup |
| Payment fails inside the app | Card, bank or network issue | Payment fixes |
| App works on Wi-Fi but not on Glo data | Data settings or APN | Network settings |
Check that your phone has a working connection
The app needs the internet to load your account details. If your data is off, empty or very weak, the app will hang. Pull down the notification bar and make sure mobile data is switched on. Then open a browser and load any page.
If the page loads slowly or not at all, the app is not the problem. Your connection is. Move to a spot with better signal, near a window or outdoors, and try again. If you are on Wi-Fi, try switching to mobile data, or the other way round.
Restart the app properly
Pressing the home button does not close an app. It keeps running in the background and can stay frozen. Open your recent apps view, swipe Glo Café away, and open it again from the icon. This clears a stuck screen more often than people expect.
Restart your phone
A restart clears temporary memory and resets the network connection. Switch the phone off, wait about ten seconds, and switch it on again. Give it a minute to find the Glo network before opening the app.
Update the app
An old version may stop working after Glo changes something on its servers. Open the Google Play Store or the App Store, search for the app and look for an Update button. If you see one, tap it.
Turn on automatic updates for the app so you do not fall behind. Updates also bring fixes for bugs and security.
If you have no data to spare for the download, use Wi-Fi. Updates can be large.
Make sure the phone is up to date too
Very old phone software can clash with a new app. Check your settings for a system update. You do not need the latest phone, but the software should not be years behind. If your phone no longer receives updates, the app may simply stop supporting it over time.
Clear the app cache on Android
The cache holds temporary files that help the app load faster. When these files get damaged, the app can crash or freeze. Clearing them does not delete your account. Here is the usual path, though menu names vary by phone brand.
| 1 | Open Settings and tap Apps. |
| 2 | Find Glo Café in the list and tap it. |
| 3 | Tap Storage. |
| 4 | Tap Clear cache. |
| 5 | Open the app again and wait for it to load. |
If it still fails, you can try Clear data. Be careful: this resets the app as if it was newly installed, so you will need to log in again.
Free up storage space
A phone that is almost full struggles to run apps. If you see storage warnings, delete old videos, unused apps and large WhatsApp media. Aim to leave at least a few hundred megabytes free. Then try the app again.
Check the date and time on your phone
This one surprises many people. If your phone has the wrong date or time, secure connections can fail, and the app may refuse to log you in or load pages. Go to settings and turn on Automatic date and time and Automatic time zone.
Fix login and OTP problems
When the login fails, check the basics first. Enter your Glo number in the correct format, with no spaces. Make sure you are using a Glo number, not a line from another network. Then request the code again.
- Wait a minute or two before asking for a new code. Repeated requests can slow things down.
- Check your SMS inbox and any blocked or spam folder, since the code arrives by text.
- Make sure the SIM that holds the number is in the phone and has signal.
- If you use two SIMs, check that the Glo SIM is the one set for messages.
If codes still do not arrive, try again at a quieter hour. If the problem continues for a day or more, contact customer care.
What to do when the balance does not show
Sometimes the app opens but the balance is empty or old. Pull down to refresh, or leave the screen and come back. If it still looks wrong, check with a USSD code instead, then compare. Codes can change, so check the Glo menu for the current ones.
A delay between a recharge and the app showing it is common. Give it a few minutes before you worry.
Fix payment problems inside the app
If a payment fails, do not keep tapping the pay button. Repeated attempts can cause double charges. Instead, check your bank or card balance, confirm your details, and make sure your network is steady.
- Confirm that your card is enabled for online payments.
- Check your bank app for an alert or a pending debit.
- Wait a few minutes, then check whether the airtime or data arrived.
- If money left your account but nothing arrived, keep your receipt and report it.
Check your network settings
If the app works on Wi-Fi but not on mobile data, the issue is on the Glo side of your phone. Make sure you have an active data bundle, that airplane mode is off and that the phone is set to a normal network mode. Toggling airplane mode on for ten seconds and off again can refresh the connection.
If browsing also fails on Glo data, look at your APN settings or reset network settings. The settings reset can fix stubborn problems, but it also removes saved Wi-Fi passwords, so use it as a later step.
Turn off VPN and data saver
A VPN can block or slow the connection to the app. Switch it off and try again. Data saver mode can also stop background activity. Turn it off for Glo Café, or add the app to the list of apps that can use data freely.
Allow the permissions the app needs
If you blocked certain permissions when you first installed the app, some features may fail. Go to the app info page in settings, open permissions and allow the ones the app asks for, such as notifications. Only allow what you are comfortable with.
Check battery and background limits
Some phones close apps aggressively to save power. If Glo Café keeps shutting down, open the battery settings for the app and set it to unrestricted or allow background activity. This is common on certain phone brands.
Uninstall and reinstall
If nothing else works, remove the app and install it again from the official store. This replaces every file with a clean copy. Before you do it, make sure you can still receive SMS on your Glo number, because you will log in again.
| 1 | Press and hold the app icon, then choose Uninstall. |
| 2 | Restart your phone. |
| 3 | Open the Play Store or App Store and search for the app. |
| 4 | Install it and log in with your Glo number. |
Be careful about where you download it
Only install the app from the official store listing published by Globacom. Copies shared in chat groups or on random sites can carry harmful software. If a link asks for your PIN or bank details outside the normal login, close it.
Problems that are on Glo’s side
Sometimes the fault is not yours. The servers may be busy or being updated. Signs include: the app fails for many people at once, errors appear for every action, and none of your fixes help. In that case, wait an hour or two and try again. Check Glo’s social pages for notices.
Use a backup method while you wait
You do not have to stop everything. The USSD menus still work without the app. For many tasks, such as checking balance or buying a bundle, you can dial the codes from the Glo menu on your phone. Check your phone’s dialer or the official Glo site for the current list.
When to contact customer care
If you tried the steps above and the app still fails, report it. From a Glo line you can dial 121. From another network, the official site lists a number you can use, so confirm it there before saving it. Have your Glo number ready and say clearly what you tried.
Check whether your Glo line itself is active
The app is tied to your number. If the line is barred, inactive or has no network service, the app may not recognise it. Make a quick test: send a short text or dial a simple menu code. If the line cannot do even that, the fault is with the line, not the app. Check that the SIM is seated properly, clean the gold contacts gently and restart the phone.
A line left unused for a long time can also be deactivated by the network. If that happened, recharge it and contact customer care about reactivation before you try the app again.
Try a different network connection for a test
This is a simple way to tell whether the problem is the app or the signal. Connect the phone to a trusted Wi-Fi network and open the app. If it works there, your Glo data connection is the weak point. If it fails on Wi-Fi too, the problem is the app or the phone.
- Works on Wi-Fi only: check your data bundle, signal and network settings.
- Fails on both: update, clear cache or reinstall.
- Works on neither after a reinstall: wait and contact customer care, because the fault may be on the server side.
Screen overlay and display problems
Some phones have apps that draw over other apps, such as screen filters, chat bubbles or screen recorders. These can block buttons inside Glo Café, making it look as if the app is frozen. Turn them off for a moment and tap again. This is a small fix but it solves odd cases where a button seems dead.
What information to give customer care
A clear report gets a faster answer. Say your Glo number, your phone brand and model, the app version if you can see it, what the app does, and what you already tried. If an error message appears, write it down word for word or take a screenshot. Do not share your PIN or full card details with anyone.
Common questions
No. The cache only holds temporary files. Your account stays with Glo.
Phones differ. Storage, software age, settings and signal all play a part. Work through the steps above on your own device.
The app itself is free to download, but using it needs data unless you are on Wi-Fi. Data costs depend on your plan.
No. Too many attempts can slow things down. Wait a few minutes between tries.
Check the app’s current rules. If you move to a new phone, install and log in again with your number.
Quick checklist you can save

Keep the app healthy
A few habits prevent most future trouble. Keep the app and phone updated, keep some storage free, and avoid closing the app by force too often. Log out and in only when needed. If you change your SIM, remember that the app is tied to your number.
Most Glo Café faults clear within the first five steps. Start at the top, stay patient and test after each change. If you still need help, customer care is there, and the USSD menus keep your line usable in the meantime.
