Sent Airtime to the Wrong Number? What to Do
Before you send
- Confirm the receiver is an active MTN Cameroon customer.
- Check the number twice. A single wrong digit sends the airtime to someone else.
- Check whether a fee or minimum applies.
- Make sure you have enough airtime for the transfer and a small reserve for yourself.
Step by step
- Dial the menu on your line and look for the transfer or share option.
- Enter the receiver’s number.
- Enter the amount.
- Read the summary screen, which should show the number, the amount and any fee.
- Confirm with your PIN if asked.
- Wait for the confirmation SMS and keep it.
What if the transfer goes wrong
If the airtime is taken from your balance but the receiver says they did not get it, do not send it again. Note the time, the amount and the receiver’s number. Contact customer care with those details and ask for a reference. Refunds and reversals depend on the case, so ask what will happen.
Limits and fees
Limits on how much you can send in one day, and any charge for sending, are set by the operator and can change. The menu shows the current figures on the summary screen. Read them every time, instead of relying on what a friend told you.
Safety
- Never send airtime to someone who asks for it urgently by message from an unknown number.
- Do not share your PIN to “receive” a transfer. Receiving never needs your PIN.
- Be cautious with messages that promise a bonus if you send airtime first.
Using transfers wisely
Airtime sharing is useful when a family member is stuck, but it can drain your own balance. Keep enough airtime for your own essential calls and mobile money confirmations. If you share often, agree a simple limit with yourself each month.
Quick checklist
- Check the receiver number twice.
- Read the summary before confirming.
- Keep the confirmation SMS.
- Never share your PIN.
- Report a failed transfer quickly with the details.
