MTN Internet Settings and APN Configuration: Copy and Paste Guide
MTN Internet Settings and APN Configuration: Copy and Paste Guide
Text 3888 or set the APN by hand, with steps for Android and iPhone and fixes if it fails.
That is the whole automatic method. Text the word SETTINGS to 3888, free of charge, and MTN sends the internet settings by SMS. Save them as soon as they arrive. If that fails, set them by hand.
The settings, field by field
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Account or profile name | MTN WEB |
| APN (access point name) | web.gprs.mtnnigeria.net |
| Username | Leave blank on MTN’s own page |
| Password | Leave blank on MTN’s own page |
MTN’s page lists the same APN for Android, iOS and MiFi devices. Some older guides show web as the username and password. Try blank first, and use web only if your device needs something in those fields.

iPhone in 4 steps
What an APN is, in plain words
An APN is the address your phone uses to reach MTN’s internet gateway. If it is missing or mistyped, the phone shows a signal but no pages load. That is why a wrong APN is one of the first things to check when data plans are active and browsing still fails.
For a MiFi or router
MTN lists the same settings for MiFi devices. Insert the SIM, open the device’s admin page, enter the profile name MTN WEB and the APN, save it and restart the device. Check that the SIM has an active data plan before you test it.
5 fixes if it still does not browse
- Confirm you have an active bundle or airtime, and check with *323*4#.
- Turn mobile data on and airplane mode off.
- Retype the APN carefully. One wrong character stops it.
- Remove duplicate or old APN entries and select only the MTN one.
- Restart the phone and, if needed, take it to an MTN service centre or call 300.
