Glo 4G Not Showing or Not Connecting
Your friend’s phone shows 4G and yours shows 3G, or nothing at all, in the same room. It is a common worry for Glo users who pay for speed and then see a lower network label. The reason may be your phone, your settings, your SIM or simply the coverage where you are.
This guide helps you work out which one it is. We do not list coverage maps because they change, but we show you how to test, how to set your phone to look for 4G and what to ask Glo when the problem is bigger than a setting.
A 4G label means your phone is connected to a 4G cell. It does not promise speed. Congestion and signal strength still matter.
Put your SIM in a phone you know supports 4G and check the label in the same spot.
Does your phone support 4G in Nigeria
Phones work on specific radio bands. A phone sold for another region may support 4G but not the bands used here. Check your phone’s specifications or ask a technician. If the phone lacks the right bands, it may stay on 3G or find 4G only in some places.
Set the preferred network type
| 1 | Open your phone’s mobile network settings. |
| 2 | Find the preferred network type option. |
| 3 | Select the option that includes 4G or LTE. |
| 4 | Restart the phone and wait for the network label. |
| 5 | Test in the same spot again. |
Check that the SIM can use 4G
Older SIM cards were made before 4G and may not carry the right profile. If your SIM is very old, the network may limit it. Ask Glo whether your SIM supports 4G, and request a swap if not. A swap keeps your number.
Check the coverage where you are
- Try different rooms and floors.
- Step outside for a moment and check the label.
- Compare with other Glo users nearby.
- Test at different hours.
- Report the spot to Glo if it stays on 3G while others see 4G.
Table of causes and fixes
| Cause | Sign | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Network type set to 3G | Label never shows 4G | Choose 4G or automatic |
| Phone lacks bands | Friend’s phone gets 4G, yours does not | Try another handset |
| Old SIM | Same phone gets 4G with another SIM | Request a new SIM |
| No local 4G | Everyone nearby is on 3G | Report coverage |
| Software bug | Problem after an update | Update again or reset network settings |
4G shows but there is no data
A 4G label with no internet usually means the data session is not working. Toggle mobile data, restart the phone, check your bundle with *323# and review your access point settings. The earlier guide on data not working lists the full steps.
Voice over LTE
Some phones need voice over LTE enabled to place calls while on 4G. If your calls fail on 4G but work on 3G, try changing the voice over LTE setting or switching network type for a test. Do not change settings you do not understand without noting the original value.
Questions people ask
The 4G signal may be weak there. The phone moves to 3G to stay connected.
It can help in strong 4G areas but may cause drops in weak ones. Test before you keep it.
Only if your phone lacks the right bands or has a fault.
What to tell Glo about missing 4G
When you report a 4G problem, give the area or street, the type of building, the times of day, the phone model and the network label you see. Say whether other Glo users near you see 4G. Attach screenshots of your signal and network type. A report with this much detail lets the network team check the mast serving your area and decide whether the problem is coverage, congestion or your device.
Try your SIM in a second phone before you report. If both phones show the same result, the report points clearly at the network or the SIM.
If your home or office is a known weak spot, a window seat for the phone often helps more than any setting.
Keep notes of what you change and the result, so you can undo anything that makes things worse.
Final note
Check the network type setting, test your SIM in a known good phone, compare with others nearby and report persistent gaps. These steps show you where the problem sits and what to do next.
