Airtime or Data? Read the Right MTN Cameroon Balance
Why airtime and data are different
Airtime pays for calls, text messages and some services. Data is a separate bundle. A line can have plenty of data and little airtime, or the reverse. Many people check the wrong figure and wonder why a purchase failed. Know which balance you are looking at before you decide.
Ways to see your airtime
- The MyMTN app shows your airtime balance on the main screen once you sign in.
- The main menu: dial the balance option through the USSD menu on your line. Choose the airtime item and read the figure carefully.
- Your mobile money wallet is separate. Check it through its own menu if you use it to buy airtime.
What to do with the result
If the balance is low, top up before you need the line for something important, such as a payment confirmation call. If it is high but you are spending fast, look at what uses it: calls to other networks cost more than calls within the network, and data used after a bundle ends may be charged from airtime.
Why the balance can drop without you noticing
- Automatic renewals of services you have forgotten about.
- Data running after a bundle has ended, if mobile data is still switched on.
- Voice notes and calls made by apps in the background.
- Premium services you subscribed to by accident.
Checking step by step
- Open the app or dial the balance option.
- Note the figure and the time.
- Compare it with the figure you saw yesterday.
- If the drop is larger than your normal use, review the active services in the app.
When to contact customer care
Contact customer care if the balance drops sharply and you cannot identify the cause, or if a deduction appears with no matching activity. Give your number, the time of the first drop and the amount. Ask for a reference and keep it.
Quick checklist
- Know whether you are checking airtime or data.
