OPay USSD codes for bills: what we could confirm
Search for an OPay USSD code for electricity or cable TV and you will find confident codes and little proof. We read several guides. This is what holds up, and what does not.
What the guides agree on
✓ The main code is *955#.
✓ The menu covers sending money, airtime and data.
✓ Betting wallet funding appears in the USSD menu in two guides.
✓ You need an OPay account and a 4-digit transaction PIN set in the app.
What they do not agree on
One guide says bill payments are handled in the app. Another says bills are available by USSD but gives no format. No guide gives a code we can confirm, so we will not print one. If your own *955# menu shows a bills option, use that. If it does not, pay bills in the app.
Details to have ready, bill by bill
| Bill | Have this ready |
|---|---|
| Electricity | Meter number, whether it is prepaid or postpaid, and the amount |
| Cable TV | Smartcard or decoder number and the package you want |
| Internet | Account or phone number linked to the plan |
| Betting wallet | Your user ID or wallet number and the amount |
| Airtime and data | The receiving phone number and the amount |
5 habits that prevent a wrong payment
▸ Check the customer name the system shows before you confirm.
▸ Type the meter or smartcard number slowly and compare it with the bill.
▸ Keep the receipt or token message until the service is active.
▸ Pay only through OPay’s own app or menu, not through a link someone sends.
▸ If a payment is deducted but the service does not arrive, contact OPay support with the reference.
If you see a bill code online
Treat it as unverified. Dial *955# and compare it with your own menu. Never type your PIN into a menu you did not open yourself, and never share an OTP.
For bills, trust what your *955# menu shows or use the app. A guessed code is not worth the risk.
