MTN International Call Rates and Bundles: IDB 500, 1000 and 1500 Explained
The 3 bundles
| Bundle | Minutes | Validity | Cost per minute |
|---|---|---|---|
| IDB 500 | Up to 20 | 7 days (reported) | ₦25 |
| IDB 1000 | Up to 50 | 14 days (reported) | ₦20 |
| IDB 1500 | Up to 100 | 30 days (reported) | ₦15 |
MTN’s help page lists the minutes and says each bundle has its own validity. The 7, 14 and 30-day pairing comes from a recent guide, so confirm it when you buy. The per-minute figures are my own sums from the price and minutes.
Where you can call
MTN’s bundle page says the bundles give low rates to select networks in the United States, Canada, India, Malaysia, Norway and South Korea. Calls to other countries are charged at standard international rates.
How to get one
What if you run out
When the bundle minutes finish or expire, calls are charged at standard rates from your main balance. Guides report that unused minutes are lost when the bundle ends, so buy the size you will really use.
Do they work abroad?
A recent guide says IDB works only when calling from Nigeria. If you travel, look at MTN TravelPass instead, which is built for roaming.
Cheaper ways to call abroad
| Method | Good for | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| IDB bundle | Regular calls to the six listed countries | Minutes expire with the bundle |
| WhatsApp or app calls | Anyone on the same app | Uses mobile data and needs a good signal |
| TravelPass | Calls while you travel | Priced for roaming, not for calls from home |
Can everyone buy IDB?
MTN says all prepaid and postpaid customers can.
Can I buy it for someone else?
Reports say the bundle is for your own number.
How do I know the country is covered?
Check MTN’s page for the list before you buy.
