MTN Data Balance Shows Zero but I Just Subscribed: What to Do
MTN Data Balance Not Updating: 6 Causes and Fixes
Late activation, bonuses, several bundles and alert lag, with the right codes to check each.
A data balance that looks wrong is usually a timing, bonus or multiple-plan issue, and not a lost bundle. Match what you see to the six causes below before you contact MTN.
6 causes and fixes
| Cause | What you notice | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Late activation | Balance shows zero just after you subscribed | Wait a few minutes, then dial *323*4# again |
| Bonus is separate | Main bundle looks low but bonus data is there | Read the full balance message |
| Several bundles | A small plan emptied first, the big one looks untouched | The soonest-expiring plan is used first |
| Wrong check code | USSD and the app disagree | Use *323*4# for data and *310# for main balance |
| Old app screen | The app shows a stale figure | Refresh or reopen the app, then update it |
| Reservation lag | Data dropped faster than the 80% alert said | MTN reserves data within a session, so alerts can arrive late |
Check properly
1. Dial *323*4# and read every line, including bonus and special data.
2. Dial *310# to see your main balance.
3. Open the myMTN app, pull down to refresh and compare.
4. Look at the last SMS from MTN to see which plan was charged.
What if the gap is large
Write down the balance, the time and what you did last, such as a download or video. Compare it with the data use on your phone’s own counter. If MTN’s number is far off, contact MTN with both figures.
Plans that look different
- YouTube Night or Day data shows separately and works only on YouTube.
- Kpalasa bonus data works only on 4G.
- Pulse night data works from 11pm to 6am.
- Welcome Back bonus data is used before special bundles.
When to contact MTN
Dial 300 if the balance still does not match after a few hours, or if a plan you bought never shows. Give your number, the plan name, the time of purchase and the balances you saw.
Does restarting the phone refresh the balance?
The balance is stored by MTN, not the phone. A restart only refreshes what you see.
Why does my phone say I used more than MTN does?
Phones count all traffic they see, and MTN counts what it bills. Small differences are normal.
Is the balance in GB or MB?
It can show either. Check the unit.
