MTN Welcome Back Bonus and Eligibility: 10x Recharge, What It Is Really Worth
MTN’s own numbers: recharge range, codes, validity, and what the bonus can and cannot buy.
10 times your recharge, with a catch
MTN’s Welcome Back Offer gives dormant customers ten times the value of a recharge. The promise sounds huge until you see how fast each naira of bonus is used up. This guide uses MTN’s own help page, so you can plan around the real numbers.
Who is eligible?
Customers who have been dormant on the network can get either or both parts of the offer. MTN does not say how long dormant means. If you are not eligible and dial the offer code, you still get the face value of your recharge, but no bonus.
How to use it
The offer is promoted for 90 days to eligible customers.
What a recharge becomes
| Recharge | Voice bonus | Data bonus | Total value | Validity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₦50 | ₦350 | ₦150 | ₦500 | 14 days |
| ₦100 | ₦700 | ₦300 | ₦1,000 | 14 days |
| ₦200 | ₦1,400 | ₦600 | ₦2,000 | 30 days |
| ₦500 | ₦3,500 | ₦1,500 | ₦5,000 | 30 days |
| ₦1,000 | ₦7,000 | ₦3,000 | ₦10,000 | 30 days |
| ₦1,500 | ₦10,500 | ₦4,500 | ₦15,000 | 30 days |
What it is worth in real terms
The bonus is spent at fixed rates: ₦49.80 per minute for voice and ₦10 per MB for data. A ₦100 recharge gives ₦700 of voice, which is about 14 minutes, and ₦300 of data, which is about 30MB. A ₦1,000 recharge gives about 140 minutes and 300MB.
What it cannot do
- No international calls, only national calls.
- No roaming for voice or data bonus.
- No value-added service subscriptions.
- No airtime sharing, and no data gifting.
- No rollover and no grace period for the data bonus.
Welcome Back special data bundles
| Price | Data | Validity | SMS to 312 | USSD |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₦100 | 250MB | 3 days | WBD1 | *312*65*1# |
| ₦200 | 1GB | 7 days | WBD2 | *312*65*2# |
| ₦500 | 2GB | 14 days | WBD4 | *312*65*4# |
| ₦1,000 | 4GB | 30 days | WBD3 | *312*65*3# |
These cost ₦200 to ₦400 per GB, so the ₦200 and ₦1,000 bundles are the best value. Welcome Back recharge data bonus is used before these bundles, and bundle data cannot be gifted.
Does it work with a recharge over ₦1,500?
No. Recharges below ₦50 or above ₦1,500 do not qualify.
Is it a SIM swap?
No. It is a bonus for dormant lines, not a SIM replacement.
Can I use *311*PIN# instead?
You can, but you will not get the bonus.
