How to Recharge MTN Rwanda: Scratch Card, MoMo and Agent Methods

You can top up an MTN Rwanda line three ways: a scratch card, your MoMo wallet or a recharge agent. Each takes a minute. Pick the one that matches what you have in your hand.
Method 1: scratch card

Dial *182# and follow the menu if you prefer prompts to a long code. Your MoMo wallet must hold the amount.
Method 3: an agent
Recharge agents and shops can top up your line for cash. Give them your number and the amount, and wait for the confirmation SMS before you leave. MTN Rwanda’s agent channels use the *160# ERS menu.

6 mistakes that make a recharge fail
- A wrong or missing digit in the voucher number.
- Using a card that is already used.
- Dialling the code without the star or hash.
- A MoMo wallet with too little money.
- A wrong PIN in the MoMo code.
- Trying again at once instead of checking your balance.
A worked example
You scratch a card worth RWF 1,000. You dial *130* with the voucher number, wait for the SMS, then dial *131# to see RWF 1,000 more airtime. Next you dial *345# and buy a 1GB bundle for RWF 1,000, and *345*5# confirms the data. Three short checks, and you know exactly where your money went.
