MTN Rwanda 4G Coverage and Network Problems
Quick answer: set your phone to 4G/LTE auto, restart it, test outdoors, and call 100 if the signal stays weak.
Start with the simple checks
Most MTN Rwanda network complaints come from settings, not from the tower. Check these before you blame the network.
- Look at the signal bars and the network label (3G, 4G or LTE).
- Switch airplane mode on for ten seconds, then off.
- Restart the phone.
- Take the SIM out, wipe it with a dry cloth and put it back.
- Walk to an open place and test again.
Pick the right network mode
Open your phone’s mobile network settings and choose 4G/LTE or the automatic option. A phone locked to 2G or 3G will crawl even where 4G is strong.
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Bars but no internet | No active bundle or wrong APN | Check your balance and re-enter the APN |
| Falls to 3G indoors | Weak signal inside walls | Move near a window |
| Slow only at night | Busy tower | Try another time or place |
| No bars at all | SIM or area problem | Reseat SIM, then call 100 |
Is your phone compatible?
Older phones may not support the 4G bands used in Rwanda. If your phone never shows 4G anywhere, try the same SIM in a newer phone to find out.
Coverage changes as MTN builds new sites. For the latest coverage in your area, check the MyMTN app or ask at a service centre.
When to report it
If the problem lasts more than a day in the same place, call 100 and give the exact location, the time it started and what the phone shows.
