Which ones work without data?

All USSD codes work without data. SMS shortcuts also work without data. Only the myMTN app, Zigi and the websites need an internet connection.

Tip: Save the six everyday codes in your notes app. They cover most daily needs.

How codes are built

Most MTN codes follow a pattern. A star, a short number and a hash opens a menu. Extra numbers separated by stars jump straight to an option, such as *312*5# for the XtraValue menu. If you are not sure, dial the short version first and pick from the screen.

Stay safe with codes

  • Never dial a code that someone sends you if it contains your own number and a long string you do not understand.
  • Do not send your PIN, OTP or card details in reply to an SMS about a code.
  • Be careful with codes that ask you to forward or share something to other people.
  • If a code gives a strange result, stop and ask MTN on 300.

Why do older codes not work?

Some old MTN codes were replaced by the common codes in 2023.

Is there a code for everything?

Not every service has a code. Some are in the app or Zigi only.

Do codes cost money?

USSD sessions can have small charges. The result screen shows any amount before you confirm.
