Which ones work without data?
All USSD codes work without data. SMS shortcuts also work without data. Only the myMTN app, Zigi and the websites need an internet connection.
How codes are built
Most MTN codes follow a pattern. A star, a short number and a hash opens a menu. Extra numbers separated by stars jump straight to an option, such as *312*5# for the XtraValue menu. If you are not sure, dial the short version first and pick from the screen.
Stay safe with codes
- Never dial a code that someone sends you if it contains your own number and a long string you do not understand.
- Do not send your PIN, OTP or card details in reply to an SMS about a code.
- Be careful with codes that ask you to forward or share something to other people.
- If a code gives a strange result, stop and ask MTN on 300.
Why do older codes not work?
Some old MTN codes were replaced by the common codes in 2023.
Is there a code for everything?
Not every service has a code. Some are in the app or Zigi only.
Do codes cost money?
USSD sessions can have small charges. The result screen shows any amount before you confirm.
