MTN Ghana Monthly Data Bundles: 6 Steps to Buy and 5 Ways to Save
A monthly bundle is the default choice for people who use data every day and want to pay once. It is also where most of the savings are, because larger bundles tend to cost less per gigabyte than small ones. This guide shows you how to find monthly bundles on MTN Ghana, how to choose the right size and how to avoid wasting data.
Where to buy a monthly bundle
| Route | What you will see |
|---|---|
| *138# | The main internet and SMS bundle menu |
| *138*1*1# | A list of internet bundles that has covered sizes from about 300 MB up to about 10 GB |
| *138*1*4# | Unlimited-style bundles, where available |
| *138*4# | Supersaver bundles |
| *550# | Personalised offers and data deals made for your number |
| MyMTN app | Shop, then Data, with every bundle in one list |
If a code opens a different menu from the one described, follow the screen. Menu names and sizes are updated from time to time.
Buy a monthly bundle step by step
| 1 | Check your balance with *124# or in the app. |
| 2 | Dial *138*1*1# or open the app. |
| 3 | Scroll through the sizes and read each price. |
| 4 | Choose a bundle and read its validity and any conditions. |
| 5 | Confirm and wait for the SMS. |
| 6 | Check your data balance to be sure it arrived. |
Work out the right size
Open your phone settings and look at the last 30 days of mobile data use. Add a small buffer. If you used 4 GB, a 5 GB bundle is a good fit. If you used 12 GB, look at a larger bundle or a plan with a higher allowance. Do not choose a size just because it is the biggest. Unused data is money you will not get back.
| Monthly use | Likely fit |
|---|---|
| Under 1 GB | A smaller bundle, or weekly bundles |
| 1 to 5 GB | A medium monthly bundle |
| 5 to 10 GB | A large monthly bundle |
| Over 10 GB | Consider unlimited-style options, a router plan or a mix of bundles |
Look at price per gigabyte
Divide the price by the number of gigabytes. A bundle that looks cheap may give very little data, and a bundle that looks expensive may be good value. Compare at least three sizes before you decide. Then check the validity, because a bundle valid for 30 days is different from one valid for seven.
Flexible and no-expiry bundles
MTN Ghana has offered flexible and no-expiry style bundles for some customers. These work differently from normal monthly bundles, and eligibility can apply. If you often finish the month with data left over, ask in the app or call 100 whether a flexible option is available for your number, and read the conditions before you buy.
Some bundles are shown only to certain customers. If you cannot see an option, it may not be available for your number.
Stop data from disappearing
- Turn off automatic app updates on mobile data.
- Turn off cloud backup on mobile data.
- Lower video quality.
- Use Wi-Fi at home, work or school.
- Remove apps you no longer use.
- Check which apps use the most data every week.
Use special windows
MTN Ghana has time-based offers, such as the early-morning Kokrokoo bundle that runs from 5 am to 8 am, and a Midnight Bundle. If you can move downloads and updates into those windows, your main monthly bundle will last longer. Check the terms of each offer, including expiry and capping.
Common problems
Look for large downloads and video. Consider a larger bundle or a plan for heavy use.
Buy a smaller monthly bundle and add weekly or daily top-ups only when needed.
Check your balance through the app or the balance menu. Wait a few minutes before trying again.
Availability depends on your number and the current offers. Check the offers menu or call customer care.
Keep a monthly routine
- On day one, note the date the bundle expires.
- On day ten and day twenty, check your balance.
- On day twenty-five, decide whether to renew, move up or move down.
- At the end of the month, compare what you used with what you bought.
Monthly bundles reward people who know their usage. Measure it, compare price per gigabyte, keep an eye on the balance and use time-based offers to protect your main bundle. After a few months, you will have a bundle size that fits like a glove.
