Glo Night Data Not Working
You bought a night plan, you stayed up to use it, and your phone still would not connect, or it ate your main balance instead. Night data is one of the best bargains on Glo, so it is painful when it seems to do nothing.
In most cases the plan is fine and something small is wrong: the time, the balance you are looking at, the phone settings, or the way the offer works. Each of these has a quick check.
Work through the sections below from top to bottom and you will usually find the cause within a few minutes.
How night data works
A night plan gives you data that can only be used inside a set time window. The window is usually from around midnight to early morning, but you should confirm the exact hours in the plan details because they can change. Outside the window the night balance stays untouched, and the phone may use your regular balance, or nothing, instead.
Quick checks first
| 1 | Look at the clock on your phone and make sure it is inside the night window. |
| 2 | Switch on automatic date and time so the phone clock is correct. |
| 3 | Dial *323# and *312# to confirm the night plan is active and not expired. |
| 4 | Turn mobile data off and on, or toggle airplane mode for ten seconds. |
| 5 | Make sure the Glo SIM is the one set for mobile data. |
Common reasons it seems not to work
| Problem | Why it happens | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Outside the window | Night balance only works in its hours | Wait for the window to start |
| Wrong SIM for data | Another SIM is chosen on a dual SIM phone | Select Glo for mobile data |
| Plan expired | Night plans have their own validity | Check expiry and renew |
| Looking at the wrong balance | Night data may show separately | Check each balance |
| Settings problem | Network or APN settings were reset | Reset and re-enter settings |
| Network fault | Local congestion or outage | Try again later or move |
The window and the clock
If your phone clock is a few minutes off, or set to the wrong time zone, you may think the window has started when it has not, or the reverse. Use automatic time. Also remember that the window may end sharply, so a download that begins at the last minute can drop to your main balance as soon as the window closes.
Is it really night data you are checking?
Many Glo plans mix a normal balance with a night balance or a night bonus. When you check your balance, you may see only the main figure, and think the night part is missing. Look for a separate line, and open the app, which often lists each balance clearly. If you have a night-only plan, the daytime balance may show as zero, and this is normal.
Phone settings that block night use
- Data saver or low data mode blocking background use.
- Mobile data restricted for the browser or app you are using.
- The wrong SIM chosen as the data SIM.
- Network mode locked to a type that the area does not support.
- Old or reset APN settings after a software update.
If you suspect settings, read the Glo internet settings guide, restart the phone, and test with a simple site.
Apps that eat the wrong balance
Background updates and cloud backups can start before or after the window and use your main data. Set big updates to run on Wi-Fi only, and schedule large downloads inside the night window. Test with one small download first so you can see which balance falls.
When to complain
If the plan is active, the time is right, the SIM is selected, and the balance still does not work, report it. Call 121, give the plan name, purchase time, balances and what you tried, and ask for a ticket number. If the problem is not solved, you can escalate through the NCC toll-free line 622.
Questions people ask
No. It is built for the night window only, so wait for the hours to begin.
The plan may be outside its window, expired, or on a different SIM from the one your phone uses.
Usually not. Just make sure mobile data is on and the right SIM is selected.
Offers can change, so check the plan details in the menu or app.
Final word
When night data seems dead, check the window, the clock, the SIM and the balance you are viewing before anything else. Those four checks fix most cases. If they do not, report it with clear details and follow up with your ticket number.
