MTN Data Plans Compared With Glo Nigeria: Weekly, Monthly and Mega

MTN NIGERIA / PLAN GUIDE

Glo is often described as the data value network, and on paper its weekly plans look generous. Here is how its reported plans compare with MTN’s. Glo’s own pages were not reachable for this check, so its figures come from two 2026 price guides.

Same price, what you get

Price MTN (official) Glo (reported)
₦100 110MB, 1 day 125MB, 1 day (120MB any-time)
₦200 230MB, 1 day 275MB, 2 days (250MB any-time)
₦1,000 weekly 1.5GB 3.2GB
₦1,500 weekly 3.5GB 7GB

If the Glo figures hold, its weekly plans give roughly double MTN’s data at ₦1,000 and ₦1,500. The any-time figure matters, because Glo’s listings separate any-time data from night or special data.

Monthly and large plans

A 2026 guide, checked against Glo’s site in September, lists ₦20,000 for 107GB, about ₦187 per GB, with Mega bundles lower at about ₦150 per GB. MTN’s help page lists plans up to 36GB for ₦11,000, about ₦306 per GB, and MTN also sells larger plans on its plans page. Check MTN’s current large-plan prices before you decide.

What to check before you switch

1
Coverage. Test Glo’s signal at home, work and on your route.
2
Any-time vs special data. Count only the data you can use whenever you want.
3
Validity. Compare the days, because a cheap plan can expire in a day.
4
Buying route. Glo bundles come by code, the Glo Cafe app and other routes. Check which one you will use.

Codes

MTN uses *312# for data plans. A recent guide says Glo’s plans can be reached through *312# too, while older guides use *127# codes. Dial *312# on a Glo line and read the menu.

A weekly example

Say you spend ₦1,500 a week on data. On MTN’s listed plan that buys 3.5GB. The reported Glo plan gives 7GB for the same money, which would be about 28GB over four weeks against 14GB. That only helps if Glo’s signal is good where you use data, so test it first.

Other points

  • Glo’s Café app sells some bundles that are not on USSD.
  • MTN gives 1, 3 and 7-day grace periods for rollover, and Glo’s rules are on its own pages.
  • Both networks let you buy a bundle for another number.
Tip: Compare cost per any-time GB, not the headline number, so a night bonus does not mislead you.

Can I use both networks?

Yes, with a dual-SIM phone.

Is Glo’s price official?

These figures come from price guides, not Glo’s own page. Confirm before you pay.

Will my number change?

Not if you port, but you can only port once every 90 days.
