Glo Internet Settings and APN Configuration

Most of the time your phone sets up mobile internet by itself the moment you insert a Glo SIM. When it does not, or when settings get changed or reset, you can see a full signal and a good balance and still not load a single page. The cause is often the Access Point Name, or APN, which is the gateway your phone uses to reach the internet.

The fix is usually a few minutes of careful typing. The trick is to enter the values exactly, save the profile, select it, and restart. Many people forget one of those last steps.

Values and menus can change, and different guides give slightly different details, so confirm the current settings in the Glo Café app or at a Glo centre if the common values below do not work for you.

What an APN is

An APN is a small profile in your phone that tells it how to connect to your network’s data service. The network name, the APN name and sometimes a username and password are stored there. If the profile is missing or wrong, your phone may show signal but have no data.

The common Glo APN values

Field Commonly shared value
Name Glo, or any name you like
APN gloflat
Username flat, though many phones also work with it blank
Password flat, though many phones also work with it blank
Proxy and port Leave blank
Authentication None, PAP or CHAP depending on the phone
APN type default,supl

Keep other fields at their default values or blank. If one version does not work, try the other, with the username and password filled in or left empty.

Before you change anything

1 Check that mobile data is switched on and the Glo SIM is chosen for data.
2 Check your data balance and your plan expiry, since an empty plan looks like an APN problem.
3 Restart the phone and test again.
4 Check whether a Glo APN already exists in your settings.
5 Only then add or edit the APN profile.

How to set it up in general

  1. Open your phone settings and find the mobile network or SIM settings.
  2. Open the access point names section for your Glo SIM.
  3. Add a new APN profile.
  4. Enter the name and APN, and the other values as above.
  5. Save the profile.
  6. Select the new profile so it is active.
  7. Restart the phone and test your connection.

Device guides

Menu names differ by phone, so see the separate Android and iPhone guides on this site for the exact path on each. In short, Android phones let you add and edit APN profiles directly, while iPhones usually set up automatically and let you check or edit under the mobile data network settings.

If the internet still does not work

  • Confirm your balance and plan are active.
  • Turn airplane mode on and off.
  • Remove and reinsert the SIM.
  • Reset the network settings, which also clears saved profiles.
  • Try the SIM in another phone to see whether the problem follows the SIM.
  • Ask care to check your line.

Common mistakes

A typing slip
One wrong letter in gloflat means no connection. Check the spelling.
Saved but not selected
A new profile must be chosen as the active one.
No restart
Some phones apply new settings only after a restart.
Wrong SIM for data
On a dual SIM phone, make sure the Glo card is set for data.

Questions people ask

Does the right APN make my internet faster?
It makes the connection work properly. It does not create speed the network does not have.
Do I need a username and password?
Guides differ. Try both versions if one fails.
Will updates erase my APN?
They can. Re-select or re-enter it if your internet stops after an update.

Why settings change on their own

Phones can replace your APN without asking. A software update, a network settings reset, a SIM swap or moving the SIM between phones can all wipe or switch the profile. This is why internet that worked yesterday can fail today with no change on your part. Keep a note of the working values, and check the access point list first whenever data stops after any of these events.

Mobile data on a MiFi or router

Devices such as a MiFi or a router use the same APN idea, but the settings screen is on the device’s own page, not in your phone. Open the device’s admin page, find the profile or APN section, and enter the same Glo values. If the device has a profile already, edit it instead of creating a new one, and save before you restart the device.

Final word

Check your balance first, then enter the APN carefully, save, select and restart. If it still fails, test the SIM in another phone and ask Glo to check your line.

When to ask Glo for help

If the settings look right, your balance is good and the SIM works in another phone, call 121 with your number, your phone model and what you tried. Ask for a ticket number. A support agent can check whether your line is provisioned for data and whether there is a fault in your area.
