How to Check Your MTN Tariff Plan: 4 Easy Ways
Your plan hides in your call rate
Most people cannot name their MTN plan, but the rate at which calls are billed gives it away. Make a one-minute call and compare the cost with this table.
| Plan | Call rate | Cost of 1 minute |
|---|---|---|
| BetaGist | 33k/sec | ₦19.80 |
| MTN X | 25k/sec | ₦15.00 |
| Pulse | 23k/sec | ₦13.80 |
| XtraSpecial Postpaid | 20k/sec | ₦12.00 |
XtraValue works differently. Inside a bundle you pay about ₦10.80 a minute, and outside it 30k/sec, so check your bundle balance too.
4 ways to confirm it
Which plan did your SIM come with?
MTN says BetaGist is the default plan for new SIM registrations. If you bought a SIM recently and never changed anything, that is probably your plan. New SIM buyers could also choose a welcome offer that points to Pulse, so check rather than guess.
What each plan is built for
- BetaGist: the simple default, with minutes given back as you call.
- Pulse: a lower call rate plus night, social and points offers.
- MTN X: a flat rate with a small daily fee and its own points.
- XtraValue: bundles that combine voice, SMS and data.
Why it is worth checking
- A plan with a daily access fee can drain airtime on days you hardly call.
- Switching to a lower rate can cut your call costs by a third or more.
- Some bonuses and points belong to specific plans, so you may be missing them.
Quick questions
Does checking my plan cost money?
MTN’s help pages do not state a charge. If you see a deduction, tell MTN on 300.
Can I be on a plan that is not listed here?
Older plans such as BetaTalk are not on MTN’s current pages. Ask MTN or check the app if your line shows one.
What if the USSD code shows nothing?
Use the app or Zigi, because codes can time out when the network is busy.
